One two-month voyage around the Land Down Under has been cancelled following the fatal incident of an elderly lady who was abandoned by the vessel on a remote island.

The passenger had been hiking on the tropical location with fellow passengers from the vessel, but broke off from the group for a pause. The liner sailed away leaving her and returned later that day after the ship staff became aware the lady was not present.

An extensive rescue mission found her body the next day.

Authorities are examining the incident, in coordination with investigators and the official investigator.

Head of the shipping company stated that passengers and personnel on the Coral Adventurer were informed that the continuation of the journey had been terminated due to the "sad loss and earlier engine troubles".

In a statement, he added that travelers would be provided a full refund, and said the operator was working "to arrange the travel back of the travelers via private aircraft".

Authorities also released an updated communication, and said they had "provided a notice to the Master" prohibiting any new passengers from boarding the ship.

The spokesperson said that they would attend the liner in Cairns upon its return.

Chronology of Events

The liner first departed the Australian port on the 24th of October, and was only 48 hours into the voyage at the moment of the 80-year-old's death. The tropical location was the opening port on the journey.
